http://www.npr.org

Today marks the one hundredth anniversary of International Women's Day. The day was created to honor a movement started by New York garment workers, who were fed up with low wages and poor working conditions. Since then, women have been involved in numerous rights' struggles across the globe, most recently in the Middle East. Host Michel Martin discusses women's empowerment with the U.S. first ever Ambassador-at-large for Global Women's Issues, Melanne Verveer.
